Your Five Screenplay Marketing Prompts of the Week

Screenwriting isn’t just about writing scripts—it’s about being ready to promote your work when the opportunity presents itself. But what are the items you need to help get your script read by the right decision-makers? That is exactly what we’re focusing on for this week’s Screenwriter’s Marketing Prompts.

And if you follow along, after just five days, you’ll have a solid foundation to confidently pitch your project and yourself as the creator. Now let’s get started:

Monday

We’re kicking off our screenplay marketing plan with writing a logline for your project. Keep it sharp, captivating, and to the point. The goal here is to capture the essence of your story in a single sentence—something that grabs attention and gets your audience wanting to know more.

Tuesday

Write your professional bio. Highlight your achievements, skills, and unique background in under 90 words. This bio will serve as your introduction to industry professionals, so make sure it reflects who you are as a creative professional.

Wednesday

Make a list of three film or TV titles that are comparable to your latest project. Think of similar works that have been successful or have the same type of vibe. These comps will help people understand the tone and marketability of your project, setting the stage for where it fits in the industry.

Thursday

Write your writer’s statement. This is where you answer the big questions: Who is this project for? Why should it exist? Why are you writing it, and why are you the one to tell this story? This statement is your ‘why’—and it’s what makes your project unique and compelling.

Friday

Draft a query email template. This template should include a little bit of everything we’ve put together this week: a strong project description, your bio, your writer’s statement, maybe some of the comparable titles, and any other info needed to showcase your project. You’ll be able to adjust this template each time you reach out to someone, making it a valuable tool for consistent and effective outreach.

And look at that! In just five days, you figured out how to describe your project, describe yourself, showcase similar successful projects, justify why the project should exist, identify the audience, and explain why you're the ideal person to write it.
